RSA 2 USA

My husband and I met online - I was in South Africa, living and working in the Eastern Cape and he was in Palo Alto in California. It was quite by pure chance that we met as he has listed his profile on Virtual Countries Dating on dating.sweden.com and I had listed my profile on match.com . Well it would have it that unknown to him Match bought Virtual Countries Dating over.... So anyway after trying out the local (SA) internet dating scene - msn had an sms version of internet dating - it was a total bust and I was always curious on the international dating scene, if anything could ever come of it. So I did a search, of the entire US and came up with Paul's profile on page 4. I loved his photo, it was nice enough that he was really decent looking, but not overly good-looking that he would probably have an ego so I sent him my profile.

I honestly never expected to hear back, and with all the thousands of profiles that came up in that search, would I have ever seen his again? I really doubt it! Well I did hear back.... And he was as enthusiastic as ever, he was tired of the US dating scene, we were both previously married, me with a 2 year old at that time, and him with no children. We corresponded for 6 months before arranging the vacation of a lifetime in Cape Town for 10 days where we would finally meet up in person. That was going to be the deciding factor as to whether we would move forward or not. Well the trip was everything.... and so much more! I have never ever had more of a romantic vacation, it was amazing. As soon as he got back to the US, he booked his ticket to come down after Christmas that same year. That trip was dedicated to a trip to Port Elizabeth with my daughter, time spent with my family in the Eastern Cape and a trip to the Katberg Mountains where he proposed. As soon as that trip was over I booked my ticket in March 2004 to go over to meet his family, look at the US and "pick up my ring" - which ended up being a stunning 1.25 carat diamond solitaire. I couldn't believe how big that ring was when I first saw it!

We arranged the wedding in South Africa for August, in Cape Town as it was such a special place for us, and were married at the Twelve Apostles Hotel, it was stunning, the most talked about wedding that whole year among everyone we knew. Some friends and family of his flew out as well. We then filed the petitions and by November we were living in CA with him in our new home. While I was planning the wedding in SA he was renovating a home that he has bought in San Jose for us. Well we are now living in North Carolina with not only my daughter, who he has now adopted, but with a soon to be one year old son as well and are so happy together! We often marvel at how it all came together, how it seems the stars aligned just for us that we should meet up! A lot of people seem skeptical on the internet dating scene but I see it as we were both looking for the same things out of life at the same time and happened to meet up, it just worked out for us! We always tell people we had the longest distance relationship, and yes he has been to SA, once to fall in love, once to get engaged and once to tie the knot! .... And now once to show off the new baby!
