Some ideas to add spice to your LDR         Everyone has a story to tell...

Calculate how far apart you and your partner live. We were 8092 miles apart when we initially met. Quite a distance to overcome when you want to be together!

Share online radio stations with each other. This is something that we couldn't do because the internet connection in South Africa was pretty dismal at the time and the cost of being online was pretty high. I'm sure we could have learned a lot about each other's cultures, interests, and outlook on life if we could have shared our favourite radio stations with each other.

Text messaging was not around when we were getting to know each other, but I know this would have been a great means to send thoughts to-and-fro across the Atlantic had it been available to us. There are several options online, but it seems SendSMSnow is a pretty good free service.

Calling each other can become costly. Now that so much is done over the internet, it's obvious that calling each other using the net is the next step. A great free online phone service is Skype. All you need is a computer and a microphone.

Create your own website together. This can be fun! This could be an opportunity to showcase your different locations and any hobbies or interests that the two of you may have. There are many websites for inexperienced webmasters. A simple Google search can open a brand new world for you!

Send a handwritten virtual postcard. These can be lots of fun and of course they are very personal.

It's always fun counting the days until you see each other again. One exciting way of keeping track of the time is to download a countdown clock that will be displayed on your computer desk top.

Why not start your own blog, one that you can share with your loved one? Once again, blogging was not an option when we were courting online, but I've heard that Blogger is a great website.

A picture is worth a thousand words! Create your own photo blog and share your day-to-day lives with each other.

Many women have gone through the experiences of meeting their partner either online or in a more 'traditional' way like on vacation or a business trip or at college. They have worked hard with their partners to make their dreams of being together come true and in so many cases, it was the woman who packed up her life and moved to her partner's country.

Here are some links to the websites of some of these adventurous women (please if you'd like to be included):
